Keep the raw piece on a stable table with a small tray underneath so the specimen does not press against polished stones. The specimen can be viewed without turning it often when there is space around the tray; for everyday handling of the specimen, keep it apart from polished stones that may press into the natural layers. The selenite specimen works best in a settled display place rather than a busy drawer without another item pressing against it. To move the selenite specimen, check that the whole base or length is supported and set it down gently in the same place.
About the natural stone: Even examples of the specimen with the same size can differ in small loose grains around exposed fibres. The supplied selenite specimen will not carry exactly the same banding after cutting and polishing.
Keeping it in good condition: The surface of the specimen is best maintained when you leave loose-looking fibres in place while brushing nearby dust; moisture can damage the finish even when the contact is brief. Keep the specimen in a cabinet where the exposed layers are protected after use and keep household sprays or polish away from the area.
